Cut off the driver rocker panel on the Sentra. Aft of the door was 99% composed of Bondo, and the entire cavity was filled with dirt and flaked off bits of the skin. Oddly, there wasn’t much more than some mild surface rust on the unibody structure, so I shot some rust converter gel all over it and will be coating it with some undecoating and paint before replacing the metal skin with a plastic one from a Civic.
Here’s what I saw when I started wire-wheeling rust bubbles. A metric shit-ton of Bondo and rust holes. Brilliant.
Cut off the nasty rear section. Improper jacking has mangled the metal pretty bad back here.
I’m not sure what I’m looking at here but there’s a secondary skin that appears to have separated from the outer skin when you get further to the right (behind) the door.
All of the thin body-work sheet metal has just rotted away at the bottom
Lovely pile of junk hanging out further forward on the car.
According to my magnet this isn’t steel and it’s way harder than regular dirt so I think it’s bondo from the rear wheel well area that’s broken off and rattled around in the rocker panel. Lovely.
Note the (light grey in this picture) unibody structural support that makes up part of the pinch weld. Some pitting but mostly just surface rust.
Where the front fender lower sectionscrews on. The screws and their brackets have become a single mass of rust, but the metal isn’t soft at all so I think I’m still good.
For being an east coast/Ohio car I’m actually rather impressed and pleased.
Close up of the rust. It doesn’t appear to actually be a part of the structure, just bits of the skin that fell off and rusted *to* the unibody. Weird. I couldn’t chisel it off despite it looking like it should come off.
Jizzed rust converter all over it then ran out of light. Tomorrow I’ll coat and paint it and try to figure out a game plan for attaching my modified Honda Civic rocker panel skin. Of course, suspension is arriving tomorrow as well so I’ll probably forget all about bodywork in the pursuit of corners.

I guess it could be worse.

All things considered, that isn't that bad at all. And kudos to you for somehow always finding time to work on your stuff. I haven't done anything more than swap tires on a car in over a year, probably.
